Check Heat Pump Grant

Who can get a heat pump grant?

The short version: an owner in England or Wales, with a qualifying heat pump, can ask an installer to apply. Renters ask the landlord. New builds need a closer look.

Key takeaways

  • Owner-occupiers and landlords can be the applicant side of the grant.
  • Tenants do not apply themselves.
  • Gas and electric homes use the standard amount, not the oil and LPG uplift.
  • Most new builds are excluded.

Owners

If you own the home and live in it, you are the usual person the installer will name. You confirm the details and you must own the heat pump at the end. The fuel you replace changes the amount: oil and LPG can be higher for a limited period; gas, electric and coal follow the standard rows.

Use the checker and then the page for your fuel: gas, electric, oil, LPG or coal.

Landlords and tenants

A landlord who owns the property can ask an installer to apply and must tell the tenant. Social housing is outside the scheme, according to the owner guidance. We have not written a longer social housing guide.

If you pay rent and you do not own the building, the result is “ask your landlord”. Paying the energy bill does not make you the applicant.

Flats and new builds

A flat can be eligible if you own it and a certified installer can fit an eligible system. Shared walls, outdoor unit space and listed status are design problems, not a separate grant amount. See flats.

Most new-build properties are not eligible. Some self-builds can be. The checker stops at “check first” and does not invent a yes. Read new builds.
