Boiler Upgrade Scheme questions

Straight answers using the figures in our data file. Each one still ends with the same limit: the installer applies and Ofgem decides.

Key takeaways

  • £7,500 is the standard heat pump grant. £9,000 is the oil and LPG category until 31 March 2027.
  • £2,500 is air-to-air. £5,000 is biomass.
  • Tenants ask the landlord. Scotland uses a different scheme.

How much is the heat pump grant?

For an air-to-water or ground source heat pump it is £7,500, or £9,000 if the home is off the gas grid and you are replacing oil or LPG, until 31 March 2027. Air-to-air is £2,500. Biomass is £5,000. Coal replacements are listed at £7,500 for air-to-water and ground source, not at the oil and LPG figure. That split is on the GOV.UK values notice.

You can get one grant per property. The grant is taken off the installer’s bill.

Who can get it?

Owners and landlords in England and Wales can ask an installer to apply, if the property and the system meet the rules. Tenants cannot apply in their own name. Most new builds are outside the scheme, with a self-build exception the installer has to prove. Flats are not banned as a type, but the system still has to be possible.

Scotland should use Home Energy Scotland. Northern Ireland is outside this scheme.

How do you apply?

You do not. The installer applies and shows the grant on the quote. Ofgem decides. A result on this website is only a reading of the published categories.

The quote form on this site is switched off for lead sales until a named installer is signed.
