The £9,000 grant for oil and LPG
The higher grant is for air-to-water and ground source heat pumps replacing oil or LPG, from 21 July 2026 to 31 March 2027. Coal is not in that category.
Key takeaways
- £9,000 for oil or LPG, off the gas grid, with air-to-water or ground source.
- Coal is £7,500 on the values notice.
- Air-to-air stays at £2,500.
- After 31 March 2027 the standard grant is £7,500.
Who the higher amount is for
GOV.UK’s consumer page says that until March 2027 you can get an additional amount towards an air source or ground source heat pump if the property is heated by oil or LPG and has no mains gas connection. The values notice turns that into £9,000 for those rows, effective from 21 July 2026. Ofgem’s installer page says the same fuels: oil or LPG, and not a property that is on mains gas, has a gas meter point, is on a heat network, or is a new build.
Coal is off the gas grid in ordinary language, and it has its own rows, but those rows are £7,500. If your coal fire is the only heat, use the coal page so you do not budget for £9,000.
The dates
Applications in this category run from 21 July 2026 to 31 March 2027. Both dates are stored in the data file and this page reads them from there. The £7,500 grant is the one that continues afterwards. Read what the dates mean and after 31 March 2027.
A visible countdown is not on the site yet. The topical plan only adds one later, and only if it reads this same end date.
What you might still pay
For a typical air-to-water install of £10,000 to £16,000, taking off £9,000 leaves about £1,000 to £7,000. Taking off £7,500 instead leaves about £2,500 to £8,500. The net cost estimator does that sum. It is a range around published averages, not your invoice.
The rest of the pillar still matters after the uplift ends: how to read a quote, which heat pump you are buying, and the fact that Ofgem decides.
