Heat pump grant for LPG
Bottled or bulk LPG, in a home with no mains gas, is treated with oil for the higher air-to-water and ground source grant.
Key takeaways
- LPG plus air-to-water or ground source: £9,000 until 31 March 2027.
- A mains gas connection takes the home out of this category.
- Air-to-air remains £2,500.
Looks eligible to apply
£9,000
An off-gas home replacing lpg with an air-to-water heat pump is in the £9,000 category from 21 July 2026 to 31 March 2027. After that date the standard grant is £7,500.
A typical air-to-water install is often quoted around £10,000 to £16,000 before the grant, so the amount after a £9,000 grant would commonly sit around £1,000 to £7,000. That is a published range, not your quote.

The same category as oil
The values notice lists liquefied petroleum gas next to oil for the £9,000 air-to-water and ground source rows. Ofgem’s installer page names oil and LPG as the fuels that qualify for that uplift, in a property that is off the gas grid and not a new build.
A holiday home or a rural house with an LPG tank is the usual case. A gas hob on bottles, while the boiler is mains gas, is not. The heating system being replaced is what the row describes.
What it is not
It is not £9,000 for air-to-air, and it is not £9,000 if you install a hybrid that leaves the LPG boiler in place. Coal is a different row even though people group it with “off grid”.
After 31 March 2027 an eligible LPG replacement falls back to £7,500 for air-to-water and ground source, on the basis of the dates in the current notices. We will re-check that before the date rather than assume a new uplift.
Cost
The estimator uses the same air-to-water band for LPG as for oil: £10,000 to £16,000 before the grant. The grant line is £9,000 while the uplift is open. See the net cost estimator.
Get the tank decommissioning and any landlord’s gas safety changes listed separately so they are not a surprise.
