Heat pump grants across the UK

This site explains the England and Wales grant. If the home is in Scotland, start with Home Energy Scotland. We do not sell Scottish enquiries.

Key takeaways

  • England: Boiler Upgrade Scheme.
  • Wales: the same scheme, plus Nest for some low-income households.
  • Scotland: Home Energy Scotland, not this grant.
  • Northern Ireland: separate programmes. This page is an overview only.

England and Wales

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme regulations apply in England and Wales. The amounts on this site, including £7,500 and the time-limited £9,000 oil and LPG category, are those grants. The eligibility checker is built for that scheme.

Wales also has Nest for some households on a low income. Nest is not a replacement for the heat pump grant and it is not automatic. Read the Wales guide.

Scotland and Northern Ireland

Scotland has its own advice service and its own funding. Sending a Scottish household into an England and Wales quote form would be the wrong scheme. The checker stops and links to Home Energy Scotland.

Northern Ireland is outside the scheme as well. We link to nidirect’s energy saving grants page and we do not invent a local grant amount.

If you are moving

Eligibility follows the property’s nation, not the address on your driving licence. A landlord in England with a rental in Scotland should use the Scottish route for that rental.

Cross-border homes are rare. Ask the installer which nation the property is assessed in before anyone applies.
