Check Heat Pump Grant

How an installer applies for the grant

The application is the installer’s job. You confirm you own the property, that the details are right, and that you will own the heat pump.

Key takeaways

  • You do not open an Ofgem account to claim the grant yourself.
  • Landlords must tell the tenant.
  • A valid EPC helps, but Ofgem describes alternative evidence where there is no current certificate.
  • The quote should show the grant as a deduction.

Your part

Ofgem’s property owner guidance asks you to give the installer accurate information, confirm your identity when Ofgem contacts you, and allow access if the job is audited. A landlord has to tell the tenant about the installation and confirm the home is not social housing.

You should become the legal owner of the heat pump or biomass boiler once it is installed. If the paperwork says someone else keeps the title, stop and ask before the application goes in.

The installer’s part

The installer has to be certified and registered to apply. They include the quote, the grant deduction, and an EPC reference where the home has a valid certificate. If there is no valid EPC, the guidance says they may use other evidence, such as a recent utility bill or fuel receipt, photographs of the current system, and an expired certificate if one exists.

That EPC point is why we have not published a page that says you must have a certificate. The guidance allows a route without one. Your installer still has to satisfy Ofgem.

After they apply

The guidance describes a commissioning window: three months for air-to-water, air-to-air and biomass, and a longer window for ground source. Treat those as the installer’s deadline, not yours to memorise. If the grant is refused, ask the installer for the reason in writing. Read what to do when a quote is refused before you pay a second deposit.

Nothing on this website speeds up Ofgem. The quote page emails this site. It does not send your details to an installer.
