Heat pump cost after the grant

After £7,500, a typical air-to-water range is about £2,500 to £8,500. After the oil and LPG grant it is about £1,000 to £7,000.

Key takeaways

  • The balance is the quote minus the grant the installer actually applies for.
  • Our sum uses the published air-to-water band only.
  • Oil and LPG change the grant, not the before-grant band.

The sum

Start with £10,000 to £16,000. That is the before-grant range in the data file. Remove £7,500 for gas, electric, coal, and for oil or LPG after the uplift ends. The result is £2,500 to £8,500. Remove £9,000 for an eligible oil or LPG air-to-water job inside the window. The result is £1,000 to £7,000.

Both ends move by the same grant. A cheap install and an expensive one do not receive different grant rates because of price. They receive the category rate.

What this is not

It is not the price of a 3 bed house, because we do not have a sourced 3 bed figure. It is not a ground source price. It is not a running-cost saving against oil.

If your quote is outside the range, the quote is the number to negotiate. The range is only a sense check.

Use it with the checker

Run the eligibility checker first so the grant in the sum is the one for your fuel. Then open the estimator. Then ask for a quote that shows the same category.

This is a guide, not a decision. Your installer applies and Ofgem decides.
