Check Heat Pump Grant

What happened to ECO4 and other ended schemes

Names from older boiler and insulation schemes still appear in search. They are not a second way to claim this grant.

Key takeaways

  • The current heat pump grant for England and Wales is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme.
  • An ended scheme does not pay today’s heat pump quote.
  • If a seller mentions an old scheme name, ask which live rules they are using.

Why the old names still appear

ECO has funded insulation and some heating work for households in particular circumstances, through energy suppliers. It is a different programme from the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, with different eligibility and a different application route. People still search the older name when they want help with a boiler.

Other closed vouchers and local trials also linger in old articles. A blog from 2023 is not a current offer. If we cannot point to a live Ofgem or government page, we do not treat the scheme as open.

What to use now

For a heat pump in England or Wales, start with the eligibility checker and the scheme explanation. The amounts in our data file were checked on 19 October 2026.

Low-income households in Wales may also look at Nest. That is a separate route, described on our Wales page, and it does not change the Boiler Upgrade Scheme figures.

If someone offers an old scheme

Ask them to show the live page they are claiming under, and to put the grant name on the quote. A vague “government grant” line is a reason to pause.

This site will not recreate application steps for a scheme that has ended.
