Biomass boiler grant: £5,000
Biomass boilers can receive £5,000 in limited off-gas cases. This is an overview, not a recommendation to choose biomass over a heat pump.
Key takeaways
- The values notice lists biomass at £5,000 for off-gas replacements, including oil, LPG and coal.
- Biomass is not funded in a self-build, according to Ofgem’s guidance.
- Most readers of this site will be looking at a heat pump instead.
The amount
Every biomass row on the 29 September 2026 values notice is £5,000. That includes an off-gas home replacing coal, LPG, oil, a fossil hybrid, electric heating that is not a heat pump, or another fossil system. Biomass does not receive the £9,000 heat pump uplift.
Ofgem describes biomass as available in limited circumstances. Rural homes with no route to a heat pump are the usual context. If a heat pump will fit, compare that quote as well.
Extra rules
The installer has to provide an emissions certificate where the rules require one. The property rules on new builds are stricter: Ofgem’s guidance says biomass is not eligible in a self-build, even where a heat pump self-build might be looked at.
We have not built a biomass cost range. There is no checked price band in our data file.
If you wanted a heat pump
Go back to the eligibility checker and choose air-to-water or ground source. The oil and LPG pages explain the higher heat pump amount.
This page exists so the biomass figure is not confused with the heat pump figures. It is an overview.
