Air-to-air heat pump grant: £2,500

Air-to-air heat pumps are a £2,500 grant. The oil and LPG uplift does not increase it.

Key takeaways

  • Every air-to-air row on the values notice is £2,500.
  • That includes oil, LPG, coal, gas and electric replacements.
  • We do not publish an air-to-air installation price range yet.

Looks eligible to apply

£2,500

An air-to-air heat pump is a £2,500 grant in England and Wales. The oil and LPG uplift does not apply to it.

Oil and LPG do not raise the air-to-air grant. It stays at £2,500.

We do not publish a cost range for this heat pump type yet, because we do not have a checked source for it.

This is a guide, not a decision. Your installer applies and Ofgem decides.

Amounts come from the GOV.UK grant values notice and the Ofgem property owner page. This is a guide, not a decision. Your installer applies and Ofgem decides.

One amount

From 21 July 2026 the values notice lists air-to-air at £2,500 both on and off the gas grid. Replacing oil or LPG does not move an air-to-air install into the £9,000 category. That higher figure is only for air-to-water and ground source.

Air-to-air heats room air. It is a different product from an air-to-water heat pump that runs radiators and hot water. Quotes sometimes use “air source” for both. Ask which one is on the page.

Cost

Energy Saving Trust’s typical figure that we use is for an air source heat pump that heats water, about £12,000. We do not treat that number as an air-to-air price. Until we have a checked air-to-air range, the estimator will show the grant and stop.

Use the air-to-air grant checker for the amount, then ask installers for the balance.

Whether it fits the home

Flats sometimes look at air-to-air because there is no garden for a ground array and no space for a cylinder. That practical point is not the same as eligibility. The grant category can still apply if the other rules are met. The installer has to design it.

A system that keeps a boiler as well is a hybrid. That is excluded even if one half is air-to-air.
